Kellogg Building Levels 1 & 2 Re-Design

Project Background

YEAR: SUMMER 2021
SKILLS: Hand Sketching, Photoshop, Finish Selection, Communication with Client

In Summer 2021 I was approached to help lead a redesign of a hallway on the Florida State University Campus, as an upcoming second year graduate student. The facilitator of this project wanted to involve a student to given them real life design experience. This redesign involved selecting finishes for the first and second floor hallways of a building built in the 1960s.

During this process I provided concept images of how I envisioned the updated spaces. This included adding environmental graphics to a long hallway of repeated storage lockers, as well as a featured entry space. My purpose was to provide design ideas that could improve the space for the facilities department to later price for their budget. Due to asbestos being present in the building, budgets limited the redesign to replacing the carpet, paint, and base trims with my finish selections.

The Facilities Manager has expressed that students have shared with him that the space was once an uninviting place to spend time, but they now enjoy taking breaks there in between classes.
